Shirley Ann Aschim was born on Aug. 2, 1932, in Minnesota.

Shirley Ann Aschim was born on Aug. 2, 1932, in Minnesota. With her family by her side, Shirley passed away on Dec. 9, 2016, in Aberdeen, Wash., after a lengthy illness.

She graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen and lived a very active life.

She was a grocery clerk at Stewart’s Grocery in Aberdeen, a mail carrier with the Montesano Post Office for many years and drove bus for the Grays Harbor Transit. She loved a clean house and had worked cleaning houses for others and caring for the disabled and elderly. Shirley enjoyed playing bingo and going to area casinos. She also enjoyed the holiday seasons and decorating for them.

Shirley married Francis Studer on Feb. 10, 1951. Together they had six children before he passed away on Jan. 19, 1973. She later married James “Buck” Tompkins, he passed away on Oct. 7, 1995.

Shirley loved her family and her children meant the world to her. She is survived by her six children; Janice Gerou of Montesano, Randy Studer of Montesano, Jay Studer and his wife, Tracy, of Valdez, Alaska, Roxie Studer-Eldred and her husband, Skip Eldred of Aberdeen, Barbara Sizemore and her husband, Terry of Portland, Ore., Mark Studer and his wife, Brenda of Montesano; 10 grandchildren, Josh, Misty, Tyler, Larissa, Jalean, Jeremy, Destiny, Kyle, Bailey and Madison, 11 great-grandchildren, one sister, Clara Crites, a special cousin, Norma Finch and other relatives. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Judith Aschim, two sisters and four brothers.

Shirley’s family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Westhaven Villa in Aberdeen for their love and help in caring for Shirley over the past year and a half.

There will be a time of viewing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam, Wash.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at the Wynoochee Cemetery in Montesano, Wash.
