On Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, lifelong Hoquiam resident Sherri Straughn, loving mother of two, passed away at the age of 75.

Sherri was born on Jan. 17, 1947, in Hoquiam, Washington to Willard and Betty Weakley. After graduating from Hoquiam High School, she went on to nursing school and worked at Grays Harbor Community Hospital for several years. In 1977, she started work at Ocean Spray, where she retired in 2009.

Sherri had a passion for her family and reading. She loved the beach and could frequently be seen at one of the local casinos, sitting behind her favorite slot machine. She also tried to watch the Seahawks every week so she could talk football with her kids! She was known for her generosity and her kind and compassionate spirit.

Sherri was preceded in death by her father, Willard Weakly, her mother, Betty Welsh, her stepfather Gene Welsh, and two brothers, Thomas and Ricky Weakley. She is survived by her two children, Julie Rickman of Colorado Springs and Fred Straughn of Salt Lake City, two sisters: Sue Evanson of Aberdeen and Sunny Wilson of Cosmopolis, and three grandchildren: Desiree’ Straughn, Jessica Cleverly and Amanda Ulrich.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Feed the Hungry, P.O. Box 1734, Aberdeen, WA 98520.

“You wonder ‘Where have my children gone?’

Where we are is where you have led us,

With your special love you showed us a way,

To believe in ourselves and the decisions we make.”
