Sherman Paul Esses passed away peacefully of natural causes in his home on May 13, 2021.

Sherman Paul Esses passed away peacefully of natural causes in his home on May 13, 2021. He was born Aug. 3, 1927, to parents Martha A. Willis and Ludlow J. Esses and was the youngest of six children.

Sherman was a lifelong resident of Montesano, attending Montesano High School and participating in football, basketball, track and baseball. After high school he served briefly in the Navy and married his wife Dorothy Alice Marston on Feb. 12, 1949.

Sherman grew up working in the Esses family berry and cascara businesses and spent the entirety of his professional career working in forest related industry. He worked at Hoquiam Plywood and Weyerhaeuser, and after his retirement in 1989 he would continue to manage the family cascara business until age 90.

Sherman enjoyed spending time with his family, managing his tree farms and following local Washington sports teams.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 73 years; sons Russ (Teri) Esses of Montesano and Jerry Esses of Moorpark, California; daughter Kelly (Marc) Rudd of Seattle; grandchildren: Erin Esses (Mike) of Bellingham, Derek (Jessica) Esses of Seattle, Bryce (Robin) Esses of Shoreline, Marcus Rudd of Seattle, Kathleen Esses (Kyle) of Kirkland, Jaclyn Rudd of Seattle, and Matthew Rudd of Seattle; and four great-grandchildren: Emily Esses, Natalie Esses, Noelle Esses and Benjamin Esses.

Sherman was preceded in death by son Stephen Esses of Montesano; brothers Victor and Clarence of Quinault; brother Ludlow of Montesano; sister Hyacinth Horne of Central Park and sister Eda Esses of Montesano.
