Scott Andrew Churchel, 55, lifetime Grays Harbor resident, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, surrounded by his family at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon.
Scott was born on Nov. 7, 1969, in Aberdeen, Washington to parents Gary Churchel and Barbara (White) Gumtow. He was raised in Elma and participated in various activities throughout his years in school. Scott was a Boy Scout and played baseball during elementary school. He graduated from Elma High School in 1988. Shortly after high school, he began working with Gordon’s Grocery where he was a clerk and stocker. He was also a part of a search and rescue team. Scott then started work with Briggs Nursery, working in transportation and the greenhouse. In 2001, Scott began a career with Grays Harbor Transit for 24 years until his untimely passing.
Scott was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish, hunt, rock hunt, and drive four-wheelers. Scott also enjoyed traveling. Scott had two daughters, Taylor and Kendra. He was a man filled with love for his girls and family and will be missed and cherished each day.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Barbara Churchel, and his step-father, Walter Gumtow, who helped in raising him to become the man he was.
Scott is survived by his daughters, Taylor Churchel of Ellensburg, Washington; and Kendra Churchel of Elma, Washington; and brothers Shawn and Stephen Churchel, both residing in Texas.
A celebration of life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
