Ruth Iris (Fishel) Miller went to rest in the arms of her Lord on Dec. 2, 2017, in Milford, Ohio, where she had resided for the last few years under the loving care of her daughter Faith. She graduated from Quinault High School in 1946 and then attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. She returned home and married Dallas Miller in 1947. They dedicated their lives to service to their church, The Community of Christ Church, Dallas as a minister and Iris through the ministry of music. Many were the summer vacations that they spent as counselors at youth camps, first at Samish Island and later at the Lewis River Campground. Mom particularly enjoyed her time at Camp Opportunity, the Lewis River camp for disadvantaged youth.

Once Mother got us kids all into school, she returned to Grays Harbor Community College where she got her degree and was involved in the Community Choir and Sweet Adeline’s. She was involved in several productions at the Bishop Center. She joined the work force in a secretarial capacity for the Preble Insurance agency. She attended a conference of Guardian Insurance Agents in New York City. When they retired, they purchased a motorhome, which became their main residence as they followed the sun south to Arizona during winter and then back to the Northwest for the summer months.

Mother was preceded in death by her brother David Fishel, her father, Asa Fishel, and mother, Isabel, and her husband Dallas Miller. She is survived by sisters, Elizabeth Carlyle, Betty Miller and Carolyn Mason; sons, David (Betty) and Paul (Geogene); and daughters, Faith Merrill (Stan), Mary Schramm (Larry) and Ruth Danner (Tracy); 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Community of Christ Church in Neilton, Wash. at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018. Family and friends are invited to a potluck lunch and additional memory sharing in the fellowship hall afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations in Iris’s name to the Community of Christ Church, P.O. Box 29, Amanda Park, WA. 98526, are suggested.
