Ruth Elizabeth Millin, 86, died at Grays Harbor Community Hospital Thursday, March 5, 2020. She was born in Aberdeen, Washington, July 2, 1933, the daughter of Peter John and Edna Charlotte (Meekins) Millin the youngest of three children. She attended Washington grade school and Miller Jr. High School, then graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1951.

Following graduation she worked in the business office of The Aberdeen World for a year, and then as a receptionist in the office of Dr. O.R. Austin.

She was accepted into the School of Nursing of Good Samaritan Hospital, Portland, Oregon in 1954. She graduated in 1957, and after passing state board exams, she became a registered nurse. As an RN she worked at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, and Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen.

In the mid 1990s, Dr. Leonard Rose, a Portland cardiologist, with assistance of RNs, started the first coronary care unit in the Pacific Northwest. She was a part of this and remained a CCU and intensive care nurse the rest of her career, either in Portland or at Grays Harbor Community Hospital, Aberdeen.

Ruth also was a camp nurse at Eagle Fern, a Bible camp outside of Portland, and at Shiloh Bible Camp, Brooklyn, Washington, during the summer. She was also the registrar at Shiloh Bible Camp for many years.

Along with her family, she attended the Cosmopolis Gospel Chapel since childhood and in Portland, the Eastgate Bible Chapel.

Ruth is survived by two nephews: Wayne Leithold, Olympia and Dennis (Melissa) Leithold, Portland, Oregon; and two grand-nephews: Brendan and Gavin. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Edith Leithold in November of 2015, and an older brother, Albert Millin.

There will be a time a visitation Thursday March 12, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m at Fern Hill Chapel.

A celebration of her life will be held 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 13, in the Fern Hill Funeral Home Chapel. LeRoy Junker and Don Norkoski will officiate. Private burial will have taken place in the Croatian section of Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen.
