Ruth Ellen Bushnell, 93, Grayland resident and former owner of Toke Pointe Café, died Monday, April 30, 2018, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Wash.
She was born on Feb. 20, 1925, in Willow Creek, Mont. to William and Ruth Nora (Snell) Webster. She grew up in Willow Creek and Butte, Mont. Following graduation, she married Arthur Kenky in 1943 and they moved to Bismarck, N.D. They liked to travel around the U.S. and eventually moved to Tokeland, Wash. They would later divorce.
Ruth owned and operated the Toke Pointe Café on the Tokeland Docks in the early 60s and was a cook on ‘The Nelco’ when it went to Alaska.
On Oct. 1, 1965, Ruth married Clarence Bushnell in Grayland, Wash. He passed away on Sept. 21, 2003.
In the 70s and 80s, she owned and operated the Tokeland Ceramics Shop and at the same time did all the bookkeeping for her husband’s commercial fishing business. She enjoyed Quilting and redwork needle pointe and was a member of the Quilters Guild. She was also a member of the Belles & Boeys Camping Club.
She is survived by two daughters: Barbara Epler of Westport and Joyce (Brian) Jernigan of Elma; nine grandchildren including granddaughter Raquel Akers; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a step-son, Edward Bushnell and 11 siblings.
A celebration of life will take place on July 14, 2018, at 1 p.m. at 208 N. Broadway, Westport, Wash.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Wash.
