Ruth Bettigene Webb, passed away Oct. 23, 2020, at the age of 93. Ruth was born Nov. 22, 1926, in Los Angeles, California, to Arthur L. and Monagene (Lawson) Royce, joining her brother, Bobby.

Ruth and Bobby often reminisced about the good childhood memories they had during the years they lived in Port Townsend. Ruth enjoyed Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, California, and the home where they lived just below the big Hollywood sign. When the family lived in Seattle, Ruth worked at a rollerskating rink where she met Robert “Bob” Webb, a young sailor from West Virginia who was stationed in Bremerton, Washington. They were married Sept. 17, 1943.

After the war, Ruth and Bob made their home in Seattle where their daughter, Monagene, was born. They moved to Hoquiam, Washington in 1950 then to their lifelong home in Pacific Beach, Washington in 1951.

Ruth had a variety of jobs but the most fun was working summers at the Zany Zebra Zip-In drive-in. It was during that time she and her boss, Helen, had a wonderful time watching some of the scenes being filmed in the area for the John Wayne movie, McQ.

Ruth has been a member of Pacific Beach Community Church since she moved to Pacific Beach.

During the 1950s Ruth was active in the Garden Club and started a Junior Garden Club for young girls. From 1952 until recently she was an active member of the Pacific Beach Ladies Aid where she served a variety of offices from chaplain to president through the years. She enjoyed the annual bazaar/dinners, Saturday rummage sales, and visiting with people attending them.

Ruth enjoyed handicrafts using nature for her artful decorations. During walks on the beach she would see a potential creation from treasures from the beach as well as from household items. She had the ability to see something and go create it with her sewing machine or crochet hook.

An avid gardener, Ruth tended her yard and house plants diligently, stopping daily to join Bob for a coffee break at the corner diner. Ever the habitual workers, Ruth and Bob always took time to play with their granddaughters and great-grandchildren. They enjoyed their vacations to fun places like Disneyland, Grand Ole Opry and across the U.S. to visit family and friends.

Ruth enjoyed her family and friends and will be fondly remembered for her pot roast, pies and cookies.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Monagene (Mike); her grandchildren, Monica and Patsy (Aron); her great-grandchildren: Ian, Isaac, Noah, Sarah and Hannah; her great-great-grandchildren, Madi and Landon. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her brother, Robert (Bobby) Royce; her granddaughter, Sheryl; and her great-granddaughter, Tiffini.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Pacific Beach Community Church or Grays Harbor Fire District #8.

A graveside service with vault interment was held in the Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.

Direction was by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
