Ruel Henry Tiemeyer, age 79, a longtime resident of Clearwater, died on Sept. 22, 2021, at Harbor Regional Health Community Hospital in Aberdeen. Mr. Tiemeyer was born on June 9, 1942, in Seattle, Washington. He grew up in Pe Ell and graduated from Pe Ell High School in 1962.
Mr. Tiemeyer began his logging career in the Naselle, South Bend and Raymond areas. In 1970, he moved to Clearwater where he worked for Bob Carl as a yarder engineer. His work took him to various places in Washington, Alaska and even as far away as Guam. He worked for many logging companies over the years in Washington including Moe Logging, Washington Log, Hobie/Corporate Logging and NDC Timber. Mr. Tiemeyer, aka T-Bone, was even featured in the June 2002 Loggers World magazine. While in Alaska he stayed at a logging camp north of Ketchikan near Yes Bay. In Guam, he worked for Tobin Logging where they took on the dangerous task of cleaning up undetonated bombs, shrapnel and other debris left on the island after WWII. It was a job he was very proud of.
He loved anything involved with the great outdoors — trapping, hunting, clamming, and all types of fishing, river, lake, or deep sea. He also enjoyed gardening which often supplied many friends and family with delicious produce. Trapping was his real passion though, and he did this his entire life, which is why so many knew him as “Trapper.” He especially enjoyed beekeeping and this hobby turned into a lucrative business in his later years. He delivered his honey throughout Jefferson and Grays Harbor counties. In addition to all of these interests he also ran a worm and bait company which supplied much of Western Washington with a good supply of bait.
Surviving relatives include his daughter April Mickelson (John) of Humptulips; son, Edward Tiemeyer (Debbie Muhlhauser) of Hoquiam; five grandchildren: Neil Mickelson, Ryan Mickelson (Kari-Lynn), Rebecca Tiemeyer, Nichole Tiemeyer and Colin Tiemeyer; two great-grandchildren: Temperance Mickelson and Samuel Mickelson; three brothers, Dave Tiemeyer (Gay) of Forks, Bob Tiemeyer (Harriet) of Beaver and Wally Tiemeyer (Eldonna) of Everett, and a half-sister, Janet Hartmann of Lompoc, California.
A private gathering of family members will be held at a later date.
