Ross Edward Shofner, known as Eddy, age 71, a lifetime resident of Grays Harbor, died on August 9, 2020, at Providence Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia after complications of several health issues.

Ross Edward Shofner, known as Eddy, age 71, a lifetime resident of Grays Harbor, died on August 9, 2020, at Providence Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia after complications of several health issues. Ed was born on June 3, 1949, in Tacoma, Washington to Oscar Howard and Patricia Ann (Medley) Shofner. He was the oldest of their four boys.

He was raised in Cosmopolis and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1967. He attended Grays Harbor College before marrying Jean McPherson in December of 1968. They immediately moved to Rhode Island where Ed was stationed with the Navy in which he served from 1969-1974. After his Navy service, he began a career as a union electrician with IBEW local 76, until he retired at the age of 59.

Eddy had many activities that he loved which included golfing, cooking and baking, and taking water aerobics at the YMCA. Eddy cheered on all of Washington’s professional sports teams, specifically the Seahawks. He was a member of Hoquiam First Presbyterian Church for over thirty years, where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He enjoyed participating in cooking for the church community meals and the Union Gospel Mission. Delivering Meals on Wheels, volunteering with the Senior Companion Program, and Saturdays at PAWS were among his other community services.

His surviving relatives include his daughter and her husband, Sarabeth and Patrick Delozier of Olympia; two brothers, Eric Shofner of Aberdeen, as well as Marlin “Mickey” and Vivian Shofner of Center, Texas. The extended family includes four nieces and nephews, Nicole Shofner, Steven Shofner, Hannah Shofner, and Marlin “JR” Shofner. His in-laws include Joan Julius, Jack and Carol McPherson; several nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives.

Eddy was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jean Shofner, and his brother, Russel Shofner.

A church memorial service will take place when large gatherings are allowed.

Private burial will take place in the McCleary Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 5th Street in Hoquiam.
