Ronald Smith, a lifetime resident of South Bend, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at his home.

Ronald Smith, a lifetime resident of South Bend, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at his home. He was 63. Ron was born Jan. 18, 1945, in South Bend to Forest I. and Dixie M. (Iman) Smith.

He graduated from South Bend High School in 1974 and married his wife, Glenda LaRue, June 4, 1977.

Ron started a logging business in 1975 and operated it for 35 years. He then started Blue Top Ridge Forestry until present, where he pre-commercial thinned over 1600 acres.

He was an avid outdoorsman as well as a drummer in many local bands. He began with the U.F.O.’s at age 11, also playing for Running Fire, West Side of Chicago, Phossil Phools, Big Al and the Gators and many more throughout the years.

Ron is survived by his wife, Glenda of the family home in South Bend, his son Myron Smith and his fiancé Brenda of South Bend, and daughters Sheri Blakely and her husband Andrew of Raymond and Crystal Leon and her husband Gera of Raymond; as well as eight grandchildren, Kendall, Kami, Grace, James and Olivia Blakely, and Kenzy, Kylee and Kourtney Leon. Also surviving Ron are his brother Forrest (Donna) Smith of Packwood and Sandra (Chris) Fosse of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Dixie Smith.
