Robert Vincent Paylor, age 96, a lifetime resident of Hoquiam, died on Jan. 5, 2022, in Hoquiam.

Robert Vincent Paylor, age 96, a lifetime resident of Hoquiam, died on Jan. 5, 2022, in Hoquiam. Mr. Paylor was born on Dec. 10, 1925, in Hoquiam to Horace A. and Grace (McMillan) Paylor. He was raised in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1943. Bob was a member of the 1942 championship basketball team and had played baseball.

He joined the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii. There he was an ordinance man and played in various base tournaments. After his discharge, he returned to Hoquiam where he began working for Arden Farms, which later became Hayes Dairy, then Darigold. He retired at the age of 55.

On July 17, 1948, he and Patricia R. Swann were married at Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church in Hoquiam. The Paylors had been longtime members of Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church and the Hoquiam Elks Lodge. Bob loved watching sports and was a huge fan of the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks.

Surviving relatives include his wife Patricia (Pat) Paylor of Hoquiam; two sons, Robert W. Paylor (Lynn) of Hoquiam and Richard A. Paylor (Gina) of Bothell; a daughter, Janet L. Bowers (Greg) of Pasco; eight grandchildren: Robert B. Paylor, Benjamin S. Paylor, Wendy A. Colvin, John B. Paylor, Charley Bowers, Scotty Bowers, Lindsay M. Paylor and Eric J. Hopkins; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Horace Paylor and Donald Paylor, and a sister, Dolores Ramum had died previously.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, at Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
