Robert Sophus Peterson, 90 years old, passed away on March 29, 2021, in Olympia, Washington. He was the widower of Mary Ellen Pugh-Peterson. They shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Hoquiam, Washington, he was the son of Robert Peterson and Jessie Travers-Peterson. He graduated Hoquiam High School in 1950 and Bates Technical College earning his engineering degree. He was employed with Washington State General Administration Department, where he worked as a civil engineer.
Robert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Moose Lodge and the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed outdoor activities including gardening, fishing, hunting and cutting wood. He will be remembered for his commitment to the community, volunteering and his sense of humor.
He is survived by his children: Nea Rice of Shelby, Montana, Bob Peterson of Olympia, Washington, Eric Peterson of Montesano, Washington, Erin Peterson of Everett, Washington and Keo Robb of Rochester, Washington. Robert had 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his faithful wife, Mary Ellen Peterson.
The memorial service will be held on April 6, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the Montesano Moose Lodge, 3 Monte-Elma Road, Montesano, WA 98563. Friends and family are welcome to come celebrate. Refreshments will be available. Covid precautions are in place.
