Robert J. McGiveron Sr., 82, of Aberdeen, Washington died March 8, 2019, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

“Bob,” as everyone called him, was the first of four to be born to Mr. & Mrs. RB McGiveron in Aberdeen, Washington, on June 13, 1936, where they lived in Wishkah Valley. He graduated from Wishkah High School in 1954. That same year he began working at Aberdeen Plywood until 1962, when he started at Evans Plywood in Aberdeen. In 1969 he went to work at ITT Rayonier in Hoquiam and retired in 2001. After retiring, he supplemented his income working at Safeway part time in the meat department for five years. While working in the 1960s, in his spare time he repaired televisions and radios in his basement. He liked to peel cascara, dig for old bottles and go to garage sales to look for records — which he had accumulated an extensive number of albums and 45s. He also collected a mass collection of collections. He was shown on a television program Weird Homes. Bob loved to take his three children, that he raised himself, camping and picnicking around the state of Washington.

Bob married Betty Dobson in 1957. They had two children and, in 1963, were divorced. He married Gai Rogers, they had a son, divorcing in 1967. He never married again.

Bob is survived by his three children George McGiveron of Hoquiam, Peggy Walczak of Aberdeen and Robert J. McGiveron Jr. of Hoquiam; two brothers, Henry McGiveron of Port Angeles, Washington and William McGiveron of Aberdeen; a sister Wanda Button of Warrenton, Oregon; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; also a daughter-in-law, June Mathison who was his caregiver for the last four years.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at St. John’s Cemetery in Wishkah. Followed by a celebration of life at the Wynoochee Wildwood rec. hall.
