Robert Donald Thierolf, Sr., 92, a longtime resident of Grays Harbor, died on April 25, 2020 in Ocean City, Washington. Mr. Thierolf was born on Dec. 17, 1927, in Centralia, Washington. He was raised in the Yakima and Hermiston areas. On Jan. 3, 1946, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany. He later served in the Korean War. Robert was proceeded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
On Sept. 15, 1949, he was married to Dorothy Ellen LaBranche. Dorothy died in 1991. The couple made their home in Ocean City from 1949 to the present. Robert had worked for Evans Plywood until his retirement.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and digging clams in his younger years and loved spending time with family.
Surviving relatives include a son, Robert James Thierolf, Jr. (Kelly) of Ocean City; a daughter, Anita K. Granbois (Calvin) of Olympia; five grandchildren, Angela Thierolf, Laura Hsu (Eric), Mary Rutledge (Jacob), Jeffrey Granbois (Sunny) and Andy Granbois (Traci); and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and siblings, he was preceded in death by a son David Allen Thierolf in 1980.
A private family graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2020 at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.
A visitation will be at the Coleman Mortuary on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
