Robert “Bob” E. McManus, age 74, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, in Lacey Washington. Bob was born on Oct. 1, 1950, in Aberdeen Washington to Merton and Betty Lou Targus (McManus).
He grew up in Hoquiam Washington and graduated from Hoquiam High School, where he created long lasting friendships. Bob then took his education to the next level and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Washington University in March of 1973, and was an active alumnus up until his passing.
After graduating from college, Bob moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, living in Oakland and Concord, California. He held many different jobs ranging from the airline industry to retail. His last place of employment in the bay area was Eddie Bauer where he became a store manager. Bob returned to his home state of Washington in 2003, settling in his forever home in Olympia. While living in Olympia, Bob tended bar at the Urban Onion where he made countless unforgettable relationships. In Olympia, Bob was very active in the local Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Aberdeen Polish Club. He had a love of service and would regularly donate his time an energy to the betterment of others. He truly lived his life to the fullest and relished the simple pleasures: travelling with friends, supporting his nieces and nephews, and just talking and spending time chatting with the people he cherished most.
Bob was proceeded in death by his parents and sister Marla Kay Parnell (McManus). He is survived by Jim and Janis Parnell of Hoquiam, Washington; Matthew and Candace Parnell of Shelton, Washington; Ian and Kate Parnell of Shelton, Washington, and Melanie, Adam and Tanner Bridges of Hoquiam, Washington.
Family, friends, and anyone whose lives were touched by Bob are invited to the Aberdeen Polish Club (823 W First Street, Aberdeen, WA, 98520) from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 to celebrate his wonderful life.
His family has asked in leu of flowers, please donate to your local School or School District in his name to help support the upbringing of less-fortunate youth.
