Robert A. Hyde

Robert A. Hyde, age 78, a resident of Hoquiam, Washington, died on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma. He was born on Aug. 16, 1942, in Vancouver, Washington, to Nyle Leonard and Claudellia L. (Calilier) Hyde. At 1 year of age, he and the family took residence in Wenatchee.

He graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1961. Bob then served two years in the U.S. Army, which included a tour in Vietnam.

Bob began his professional career in funeral directing by serving an apprenticeship at Jones & Jones Mortuary in Wenatchee. He then graduated from the California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles in 1968 and received his funeral director and embalmer licenses that same year.

While living in Los Angeles, Bob met Joan M. Jeney. The couple was married on Feb. 20, 1971, in Arcadia, California. They moved to West Seattle, where Bob had been employed by Yarington’s White Center Funeral Home.

Bob and Joan came to Hoquiam in 1974 and has been with Coleman Mortuary since that time.

Being very active in the community, Bob has served on the Hoquiam City Council for 12 years; the Board of Adjustments for the City of Hoquiam; a member of Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church and their parish council; Knights of Columbus; has been active in scouting for over 20 years, is a life member of the Henry L. Robb VFW Post 1135 in Hoquiam and had been a longtime member of the Hoquiam Rotary of which he held numerous positions.

Surviving relatives include his wife Joan of the family home in Hoquiam; a son John R. Hyde and his wife Suzy of Washougal; daughter Kristy Ford and her husband Tracy of Aberdeen; grandson John R. Hyde Jr. of Washougal and granddaughter Elaina Lynn Ford of Aberdeen. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a brother David Nyle Hyde and a sister, Patricia Ann Conley and her husband Richard.

A private committal service will be held at the Orondo Cemetery near Wenatchee.

A more inclusive service will be held later when all can gather safely.
