Surrounded by his family, Richard Eugene Tobin passed peacefully May 7, 2021. Born in Seattle, he spent his youth in Cle Elum before moving to Mercer Island in 1942.

He attended O’Dea High School, proudly graduating in 1946, then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Occupation Forces in Japan, and was left with a lasting appreciation of Japanese culture. He was an avid football fan of the WSU Cougars and Notre Dame Irish. He was a devoted parishioner of St Jerome Catholic Church, Ocean Shores.

He married JoAnne Brotherton on May 17, 1952 and they raised eight children who honor their father for his many sacrifices, loving heart, enduring Catholic faith and generous nature. He was known for his hospitality — from his children’s friends, to neighbors, to visitors from other countries.

Dick worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 42 Years. After retiring in 1990, he built a dream home for JoAnne in Copalis Beach.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 69 years JoAnne, sister Joyce Baldwin, his eight children, 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by newborn sons, Edward and Eugene, sister Jackie Axling, daughter-in-law Lynn and grandson, Houston.
