Richard Broten, always known as “Rick” to all his family and friends, was the owner of RB Construction of Grays Harbor, Inc. for over 50 years.

Rick passed on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020, at the age of 67 from ALS, aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was born Aug. 4, 1953, in Aberdeen, to Anthony Broten and Pauline (Wyciskala) Broten. Rick grew up in Aberdeen and attended Aberdeen schools then moved to Montesano.

During and after school, he worked with his dad Tony and his brothers in the family construction business, formerly known as R & B Construction.

Rick was always a hard worker and a perfectionist. He also was a member of the Montesano Moose Lodge where he enjoyed a cold beer with family and friends. Rick also liked to fish and hunt, but his true passion was riding his Harley! He and Loni “LIVED TO RIDE!”

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, wife Loni (Butcher) Broten of Montesano, brother-in-law Dean Lyons of Ocosta, a nephew Dennis Broten of Aberdeen and sister-in-law Dorothy Broten of Ocosta.

Rick has three children: Tony Broten of Montesano, Alison Nwafor (Tony) of Manhatten, Kansas and Lacie Broten of Seattle. Brothers include Jerry (Marie) of Elma, Ken (Dorothy) of Ocosta and Rob of Aberdeen. Sisters are Patricia ‘Pat’ of Ocosta, Elaine of Aberdeen and MaryKay (Lyle) of Olympia. Rick has three grandchildren: Kassandra Ooms (Caleb), Balen Nwafor and Kolie Broten. There are also numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Rick was well-liked by all that he met through his personal and work life. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

Rick will be cremated and laid to rest privately with his family present — date pending. Because Rick has a large community of family and friends, a celebration of life will be held at a later date due to the pandemic restrictions.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Washington.
