Richard Patterson Malloy, age 85, a resident of Aberdeen, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 21, 2020 in Olympia, Washington. Mr. Malloy was born on July 17, 1934, in Seattle, Washington, to John West and Ruby Irene (Humphrey) Malloy. He was raised in Seattle and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952.

From high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1952 to 1954. Upon his discharge, he returned to Seattle where he attended the University of Washington and Everett Community College.

On Oct. 27, 1957, he and Marny Dutton were married. Marny died on June 22, 2007. They had been 4-H leaders for over 25 years in Snohomish County spending every vacation at fairs with their sons and those in their 4-H club.

Dick thoroughly enjoyed teaching a Junior High Sunday school class at the Congregational Church in Maltby where he eventually became Sunday School Superintendent. In the ‘80s they were on a mission team to Bulgaria.

For 22 years, he was a Seattle firefighter, taking a disability retirement in 1981.

In 1996, he and Marny moved to the Harbor. He was active in the community, driving school bus for the Hoquiam School District and volunteering at Emerson Elementary School. He was so well liked that he was hired as an educational assistant.

On Jan. 10, 2009, he and Karen Fields were married. They enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States, visiting 46 states, as well as Greenland, Iceland, Denmark, Scotland and the Faroe Islands plus other European countries.

Surviving family members include his wife, Karen, of the family home in Olympia; four sons, Michael (Marrisa) Malloy of Lynnwood, Kenneth Malloy of Apache Junction, Arizona, James (Cassie) Malloy of Snohomish and Joseph (Laura) Malloy of Snohomish; stepsons, Michael (Tammy) Davison of Bolton, Massachusetts and Scott (Karen) Davison of Jonesboro, Georgia and six grandchildren, Jennifer Malloy, Sean (Sara) Malloy, David (Brittini) Malloy, Leslie Malloy, Benjamin (Ashley) Malloy and Francis Malloy. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren plus numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. His only sibling, a brother, John West Malloy, Jr. died previously.

A private entombment will be at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park, with Pastor W. Kent Gravley officiating. Perhaps there will be a memorial service later when guidelines allow.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.

Visitation will be at the Coleman Mortuary on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
