Richard John McDaniel, 71, retired logger and a Grays Harbor resident, passed away on March 8, 2021, at Montesano Health & Rehab Center in Montesano.
Richard was born in Seattle on Jan. 18, 1950, to John Thomas and Annabelle May (Puett) McDaniel. In the early ’60s they moved to Aberdeen, where Richard attended school until the Army came knocking his senior year. He served three tours in Vietnam, three Purple Hearts and the Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and gladly returned to Aberdeen.
Richard worked in the area logging for various companies. He also worked for Rabys Logging and Dead Horse Logging and for a while in Alaska for Silver Bay Logging. He enjoyed shooting pool, woodworking and watching football.
Richard is survived by a brother, Patrick (Susan) McDaniel of Westport; and two sisters: Barbara Zawlocki of Bremerton and Joanne Wright of Aberdeen.
He will be inurned at Sultan City Cemetery, Sultan, Washington.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Washington.
