Ralph Stanley “Jock” Asbury, age 62, a resident of Hoquiam, died on Dec. 4, 2023, at University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.

Ralph Stanley “Jock” Asbury, age 62, a resident of Hoquiam, died on Dec. 4, 2023, at University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. Ralph was born on June 10, 1961, in Seattle to Robert E. Asbury Sr. and Barbara N. (Floyd) Asbury.

He was raised in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1979, where he played football. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Hoquiam where he worked as a chaser for various logging companies including for Bill Pickell. He then returned to the place he loved the most, the ocean. He worked for Western Pioneer as a deckhand in the shipping industry. He was known as the “Cargo Ninja.” He was there for over 10 years when an injury caused his early retirement.

He had been married to Tammy Mattocks. He enjoyed spending time with his father-in-law, John, whether it be on the water or out in the woods. He loved to spoil his grandkids, cooking (oatmeal-raisin cookies were his specialty). Fishing, hunting, and clam digging, and watching the Seahawks were his favorite hobbies, especially when he was with his best friend and brother, Bob.

Surviving relatives include his son, Ryan Asbury of Copalis Crossing; a daughter, Kandra Asbury of Humptulips; two grandchildren Karlie Schumacher and Abel Asbury

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Barbara; two sisters, Barbara Fenton and Nancy Larson; and his big brother and best friend, Robert Jr.

At his request, there will be no service.

Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
