Phyllis Marie Miller passed away April 15, 2022, at the age of 82. She was born on Oct. 16, 1939, to Alvin and Mary Donovick Dick. She was a lifelong Hoquiam resident who graduated from Hoquiam High School and Grays Harbor College and also attended the University of Washington. She had three siblings: Dorothy (Walt) Brewer, Suellen (deceased)(Paul) Metke and Alvin (Vicki) Dick.

She married Leighton (Chick) Miller in 1961. They were married 39 years before Leighton’s death in 2000. They had three children: Marcy (Jim) Peterson, Melissa (deceased) (John) Bullington and Mark Miller. Phyllis was always involved in her children’s extracurricular activities when they were growing up. She particularly enjoyed running the concession stand for Hoquiam Babe Ruth for several years. She also loved spending time at Black Lake with her immediate and extended family.

Phyllis had five grandchildren: Jamie Peterson, Ty Bullington, Lauren Miller, Erin Bullington and Evan Miller, who were very precious to her. She hardly ever missed any of her grandchildren’s sporting events, band concerts or any other activities they participated in. She also attended many events her great-nieces and nephews were a part of.

When her children were young, Phyllis stayed home with her children, but after they grew up, she worked for Pettit Oil. Before her retirement, she was the manager of five convenience stores for Pettit Oil.

Phyllis also enjoyed traveling and took many trips after her retirement. She went to Hawaii, Puerto Vallarta, Arizona (and watched NASCAR), Reno, Nevada and loved a particularly memorable trip to Europe with her cousins. Phyllis was an outstanding bowler for many years, and she loved attending the Elma car races.

A graveside service with vault inurnment will be held April 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam. Following the service, a gathering of her friends and family will be held at the Grays Harbor Country Club at 1 p.m.
