Peter Gordon Hegg, longtime educator and retired principal of Hoquiam High School, died on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022.

Peter Gordon Hegg, longtime educator and retired principal of Hoquiam High School, died on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. He was born in Aberdeen on Dec. 27, 1935, to Harold and Eva Hegg.

Peter attended school in Hoquiam and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1954. During this time, he met the love of his life, Sally Norris. They were married on Aug. 31, 1957, while Pete attended Western Washington State College. After college, they moved back to Hoquiam. Pete had taught at Hoquiam High School and served as vice-principal and athletic director, before moving to Eatonville in 1976 to take the position of principal at Eatonville High School. In 1982, he returned to Hoquiam to become the principal of his alma mater, Hoquiam High School, retiring in 1994.

After retirement, Pete went on to enjoy many activities. He enjoyed golfing and made a hole-in-one at Ocean Shores Golf Course in 1996. Pete and Sally enjoyed traveling to Europe and going on cruises with friends. He was involved in many local organizations. He served as president of the Hoquiam Lions Club and had been awarded Lion of the Year and was a Melvin Jones recipient. Pete volunteered at the Hoquiam Food Bank. He was a member and served as the treasurer for the Hoquiam United Methodist Church for many years. Pete was dedicated to his community, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally. Surviving relatives include his children, Sheryl Coulon, Mark Hegg (Marleen) and Ken Hegg (Phen); four grandchildren and six great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his siblings, Susan Swantek and Carl Hegg and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planed for Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hoquiam Elks Lodge.

Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
