Aberdeen resident Penny Sue Holcomb died of complications from COVID-19 on Monday, May 2, 2022, surrounded by her family at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. She was 68 years old.

Penny was born Dec. 2, 1953, in Honolulu, Hawaii the daughter of Dora Santiago and John Evans. The family lived in Waialua, Hawaii until moving to the Aberdeen-Hoquiam area in 1959. She attended both Hoquiam and Aberdeen high schools and graduated from Grays Harbor College in 1986 with a degree in bookkeeping.

Penny married Lester Holcomb Sr. in Aberdeen on March 8, 1975 and worked at Mayr Bros. until retiring after suffering an industrial accident.

She loved to gamble at casinos and spend time with her family. She loved spending the holidays with her family, especially her grandkids. She also enjoyed sitting around the campfire, making smores, fishing with her husband and crocheting beautiful afghans.

Penny is survived by her husband of 47 years, Lester; her sons Dan Holcomb, Mike Holcomb and Lester Holcomb Jr.; brothers Joe Lawrence and Frankie Lawrence of Hawaii, John Evans, Donald Evans, Alfred Evans and William Evans of Aberdeen; sisters Carolyn Carrol of Kansas City, Kansas and Kathie Evans of Seattle, Washington; and grandchildren: Kayleah Holcomb, Kolten Holcomb, Achilles Holcomb, Aiden Holcomb, Kayson Holcomb and Josh Holcomb.

A celebration of Penny’s life will be held in the future and details printed in The Daily World.

Arrangements are by Crown Memorial Center, Cremation and Burial in Portland, Oregon.
