Norma Jean Finch, age 88, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, died on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital with her daughters by her side.

Norma Jean Finch, age 88, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, died on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital with her daughters by her side.

She was born on Feb. 13, 1929, in Decorah, Iowa to her parents, Clarence and Selma Ask.

When she was a young girl the family moved to the Harbor where she resided the rest of her life. She grew up in a large family of seven children.

On Aug. 8, 1950, Norma married Delbert Finch at the Saron Lutheran Church in Hoquiam.

Together they raised their three daughters, Kathy, Diane and Denise at the Queets Avenue home in Hoquiam.

Norma enjoyed garage sales and finding “Treasures” for everyone… Bingo … spending time with her siblings at the family home and babysitting her grandchildren when they were young.

Norma is survived by her daughters – Kathy (Fred) Short of Hoquiam and their children, Jason Short and Ryan (Serena) Short of Seattle and great-grandchildren, Ryder and Walker Short. Diane Levold of Aberdeen and her children, Jessica (Nathan) Hoover of Montesano, great-grandchildren, Hudson, Henry and Harrison Hoover and Lindsey Levold of Seattle. Denise (Ken) Holmes of Hoquiam and their children, Ashley (Brett) Deatherage of Portland and Kolby Holmes of Montesano. Her sister, Sharon (Bud) Merta of Gig Harbor; her brothers, Dervin Ask of Olympia and David Ask of Hoquiam. As well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends that she loved dearly.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Finch and her brothers, Marlin, Ken and Curtis Ask.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to her caregivers, Mary-Ann, Myra, Julie, Cleo and Ruth Ann.

A private family service with vault interment was held at Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
