Nancy Jean Redifer, 88, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday afternoon, Sept. 6.

Nancy Jean Redifer, 88, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday afternoon, Sept. 6, at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia while surrounded by family.

She was born in Aberdeen, Washington to Oscar and Mildred (Markey) Johnson in 1933. She attended Washington Elementary in Hoquiam and Hoquiam Junior High, and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1951.

Nancy then started her career at Pacific NW Bell as an operator, moved to San Francisco and Eureka, California in 1952, then later returned to Grays Harbor to marry John M. Redifer in 1953, and was blessed with five children.

She graduated from Grays Harbor College in 1963 with a certificate in office automation, then moved to Olympia where she raised her children and worked for the State of Washington spanning 35 years at the Secretary of State’s office, Department of Revenue, Department of Transportation and Department of Labor and Industries.

She loved annual family reunions at Ocean Shores where her sister Patricia’s room was the center of activity and the loudest room at the Canterbury Inn.

Nancy has joined her parents, her sister Patricia Main of Kenmore, and her first son Mark Redifer of Salem, Oregon in heaven. She is survived by her brother Rex Johnson of Hoquiam, sister Kathy Tonnemaker of Raymond, sons: John Redifer of Mercer Island, Edward Redifer of Olympia and Ronald Redifer of Indianapolis, Indiana, daughter Jane Kadyck of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial for Nancy is being planned for August 2022 at Ocean Shores.
