Naaman Ray Riffe, age 79, a longtime resident of the East Hoquiam area, died on May 11, 2021, at Harbor Regional Health Community Hospital in Aberdeen. Mr. Riffe was born on March 27, 1942, in Wayne County, West Virginia to James Arnold and Alma B. (Toppins) Riffe. Namman was raised in West Virginia, then came to the Pacific Northwest at the age of 17.

In 1960, the family moved to Aberdeen where they ran the Twin Bridge Motel. It was in Aberdeen that Naaman saw Isabel Baldonado leaving Kress’s store. He told his mother that he had just seen the girl he was going to marry. On June 16, 1961, the couple were married at Lady of Good Help Church in Hoquiam.

Later, Mr. Riffe attended Olympia Vocational Technical Institute and graduated on March 24, 1972 as a certified farrier. He had a love of hunting in the high country of Okanogan County, taking many of his clients with him using horses. He was a member of the Muzzle Loader Club, a director on the board of New Beginnings Church in Aberdeen and would forge beautiful hand-crafted knives. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his special great-grandson, Sawyer, as well as shooting at the local gun range.

In addition to his wife, Isabel, surviving relatives include two sons, David A. (Carmen) Riffe of Hoquiam and Damon (Shelly) Riffe of Hoquiam, a brother, Raymond (Faye) Riffe (Steve) of Hoquiam; one sister, Shiral (Dan) Boone of Hoquiam; five grandchildren: Ashley Riffe, Matthew Riffe, Zachary Riffe, Lacey Heleniak and Matthew Heleniak and a great-grandson, Sawyer Heywood. A granddaughter, Krysta Lopez preceded Naaman.

A graveside was held at high noon on Friday, May 14, 2021, at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.
