Muriel Carolyn (Tuffree) Stoken, 81, of Hoquiam, Washington, died at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood

Muriel Carolyn (Tuffree) Stoken, 81, of Hoquiam, Washington, died at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, Washington, on Jan. 31, 2020, surrounded by her family and loved ones, of heart and kidney failure.

Muriel was born on March 11, 1938, in Hoquiam, Washington, to Lester and Elsie (Hanson) Tuffree. Growing up, Muriel enjoyed spending days swimming in the river on the farm where she lived with her four siblings and loved the river for all her life. Muriel attended Quinault High School and excelled with her studies. She was competitive and loved sports.

Muriel was happily married to Frank Stoken for 40 years. Together they had four children and worked together to form their business, Stoken and Sons. Muriel worked as a successful real estate agent for many years and had a great passion for her profession. She worked for many years for Century 21, Peterman Realty and later for First Harbor Real Estate for Martha Carr. She had many returning clients and worked well into her 70s.

Frank and Muriel enjoyed traveling with their family and took many vacations including time in Mexico, Palm Springs, the Caribbean, Hawaii, New York and more. In addition to traveling, Muriel loved to shop. And sometimes she couldn’t wait to wear her new purchases, as she put on her new shoes and wore them home. Muriel was a giving person frequently giving to others before herself.

She was a devote member of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hoquiam for more than 50 years. One of her last utterance was, “I love Jehovah and will never, never, never, never, never, … stop loving him”.

She was survived by her sons Russell and Jason Stoken; grandchildren Josh, Britany, Rushell and Garrett Stoken; Tyler, Jake and Kayden Stoken; Haley, Kyle and Dereck Stoken and one great-grandson, Jackson. In addition, she is survived by three sisters, Lorena (Mikko) Koski, Patricia (Richard) Rapp, Elsie Whitfield and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank Stoken, two daughters, Debra and Peggy, and a grandson, Jeremy, her parents Lester and Elsie Tuffree and a brother, Lester M. Tuffree.

Services will be on March 7 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall, 1000 K St., Hoquiam, WA.
