Michael Gordon Woods, was born in Port Orchard, Washington, on Nov. 3, 1940, and passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020, at his home in Ocean Shores, Washington, with his loving wife at his side. He was 79.
Mike was raised in Pacific Beach and Bremerton, Washington, by his loving parents John and Ruth (Swanson) Woods. He graduated in 1959 from East High School in Bremerton and joined the Army. He received an honorable discharge and returned to Washington.
On June 2, 1983, Mike married Jeanette (Long) Woods in Steilacoom, Washington. They were both employed by the Washington State Department of Corrections, working in Shelton, McNeil Island and Monroe, Washington. When Mike retired in 1992 the couple moved to Ocean Shores, Washington, where Jeanette still resides.
Mike loved the game of golf and spent many hours playing before and after he retired. He was so excited when he made a hole-in-one at Ocean Shores Golf Course, hole No. 11, on Sept. 6, 1994. Mike also loved baseball and football. As a couple they participated with a softball team composed of several correctional staff. Mike was coach and Jeanette was score keeper.
Mike is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jeanette Woods of Ocean Shores. He has a daughter, Bonnie (Wayne) Young of Lacey, Washington, and a son, Michael (Cheryl) Woods of Shelton, Washington. He has two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Woods, and siblings, John Woods, Alton “Skip” Woods, Jean Landeck and Evelyn Dougherty.
Memorial donations in Mike’s name may be made to North Beach Medical Supply in Ocean Shores, Washington.
