Michael Dennis Elway, 80, a resident of Cosmopolis and owner of Elway Plumbing, passed Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, at his home.

Michael was born on Nov. 8, 1939, in Aberdeen to Robert and Ella Violet (Meeker) Elway. He graduated from Aberdeen’s Weatherwax High School in 1957. On Feb. 16, 1961, Michael married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Vaughn in Cosmopolis. She passed away on Jan. 14, 2017.

In 1964, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Texas and then at Mannheim, Germany. He returned to the Harbor following his Honorable Discharge. Thereupon he was in the National Guard 66th Aviation Brigade and retired after 25 years. He was a former member of the Aberdeen Elks Lodge and VFW.

He loved being with his grandkids, road trips and working. He enjoyed going to the local restaurants for his morning coffee and visiting with other coffee friends. Mike was humble, easygoing, and was willing to go out of his way for his family and customers. He continued to work up until the day he passed.

Michael is survived by his two sons, Dennis Elway of Cosmopolis and Robert (Diane) Elway of Hoquiam; a daughter, Megan Elway and her partner Craig Guarisco of Aberdeen; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Richard ‘Dick” Elway and Daniel Elway and a sister, Kathy Fode.

Michael will be inurned with his wife at Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen.

There will be a memorial service for family and friends on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date when all can attend.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
