Mary Louise Fanning, 66, Montesano resident and former donut maker at Safeway, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

Mary Louise Fanning, 66, Montesano resident and former donut maker at Safeway, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen.

Mary was born on Oct. 15, 1951, in Winnipeg, Canada, to Thomas and Florence (Dunnwoody) Bennett. She moved to Costa Mesa, Calif., at the age of 11 and then to San Diego, Calif., where she graduated from Castle Park High School in Chula Vista.

She worked for Winchell’s Donuts and Duncan Donuts in San Diego and that’s where she met a driver for Safeway. On Oct. 14, 1984, Mary married that driver, Jerry Raymond Fanning, in Bonita, Calif. He resides at the family home.

They moved to Montesano and she went to work for R Deli in Aberdeen in 1986 as a donut maker. In 1996 she went to work for Safeway’s Bakery Dept. as a cake decorator and donut maker. She worked there until her retirement in 2007.

Mary enjoyed baking, cooking, surfing Facebook, looking for new recipes and being with family.

Mary is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jerry Fanning of Montesano, Wash.; two step-daughters: Linda Bloom of San Diego, Calif. and Tammy Sanchez of Toledo, Ohio; two step-grandchildren: Brandon and Alexandra. She was preceded in death by a brother David Bennett and a sister Ann Kapko.

There will be a potluck celebration of life on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at 1 p.m. in the Brady Grange.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Wash.
