Retired U.S. Navy Captain and longtime resident of Westport, Marvin Dean, age 75, died Sunday, May 10, 2020 at Puget Sound Health Center in Olympia after a years long battle with liver disease.

Retired U.S. Navy captain and longtime resident of Westport, Marvin Dean, age 75, died Sunday, May 10, 2020, at Puget Sound Health Center in Olympia after a years-long battle with liver disease. Marvin was born in New York state and joined the Naval Air Corp in 1970 serving 10 years active duty before retiring to the Naval Reserves where he retired as a Captain in 1995.

Marvin met and married a young Naval Officer, Donna Madden, in 1972. Together they served in various postings around the world and in the U.S.. A marriage that lasted 44 years until her death in 2017.

Marvin was an avid fisherman and could often be heard asking if anyone wanted any fish. He loved teaching people to fish correctly and designing and making fishing equipment. He was often seen “hanging out” at Englund Marine or talking to the fishing fleet captains.

Marvin is survived by his much loved little dog Major who now lives with a family with two kids and a fur brother in Everett. A sister in Florida and a niece.

In accordance with Marvin’s wishes the U.S. Coast Guard Westport Station will bury him at sea.
