Martin “Marty” Albert Paulson, 67, passed away on Tuesday, Feb, 2, 2021, in Grayland, Washington.

Marty lived in Grayland most of his life, having been born and raised there. He graduated from Ocosta High School in 1971, where he was a member of the state basketball championship team his senior year. Marty earned an associate’s degree from Grays Harbor College while also working on the family cranberry bogs. He then moved to Bellingham, Washington, where he attended Western Washington University and earned a bachelor’s degree in business. Upon graduation from Western Washington University he moved to Coos Bay, Oregon, where he spent several years managing fishing canneries.

In 1979, Marty returned to Bellingham where he worked as an accountant for Puget Power for a short while before moving back to Grayland in 1981 to work the family cranberry bogs alongside his father. Marty eventually took over the bogs when his father retired, making him the second generation owner.

Marty never lost his love for basketball and enjoyed many years of pick-up games in the driveway with family and friends and also playing recreationally in a city league for several years. He was also an active member at the South Beach Christian Center. He also enjoyed golf, spending time at the family cabin on the Hood Canal and attending University of Washington Husky football games.

Marty is preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer Paulson, who passed in December 2000, his mother Mabel Paulson who passed in November 2008 and his father Martin Paulson who passed in February 2016.

Marty is survived by his son Ryan (Collete) Paulson; grandchildren: Hannah, Luke, and Parker Paulson; his sister Janice Scarboro; his ex-wife Kristine Paulson; sisters-in-law: Kathi (Leon) Patterson, Kandy (Joe) Graham and Mary Francis Snow; brothers-in-law: Doug (Anne) Schmidt, Bob (Monica) Schmidt and Fred (Maureen) Schmidt; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
