Martin Luther “Marty” Beisel passed away on Nov. 7, 2020, at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation.
Born in Montrose, South Dakota, on Nov. 12 1935, his parents were Charles and Eva Beisel. He was the youngest of six children.
Marty entered the Army in 1960, where he fulfilled his duty until 1964. He always said his time in the Army was the best experience of his life, and he would do it all over again if he could.
Marty worked at West Coast Plywood and later at Grays Harbor Paper until 1992, when he retired on his 57th birthday.
Marty enjoyed watching Mariners and Seahawks games with his grandsons.
While in high school, Marty participated in multiple school sports. He also worked at the local movie theater as a projectionist and at the town’s local farm store.
Marty loved to cruise with his wife Kathy and his grandsons. They cruised to several places, but Alaska was his favorite place. He often called Alaska his, “Home away from home.” Walking was another activity Marty greatly enjoyed. He, along with his walking partner Benny would walk three to four times a week. They would adventure through Hoquiam one day, and to Aberdeen the next. Like clockwork, Marty would go to the YMCA every morning at 5 o’clock. There, he would have his morning cup of coffee and enjoy the company of his friends and YMCA staff, whom he loved and adored.
Marty cherished his grandsons. When they would come to visit him, the first thing they would say would be, “How are you grandpa?” When it was time to leave, they always gave him a big hug and said, “I love you.”
Marty and his wife Kathy married in 1964. They enjoyed 56 wonderful years together. Marty is remembered by his children, David and Tina, and his grandsons, Scott and Anthony.
