Marlene M. Rognlin, 83, of Aberdeen, Wash. passed away peacefully from heart failure complications on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, in Tucson, Ariz. Her easy-going warmth and humor were well-known amongst her large circle of family and friends, and she will be deeply missed.

Marlene Mae Heggie was born on July 30, 1934, in Becida, Minn. to Floyd and Eva (Hanson) Heggie. After high school, she and her future sister-in-law, Ida Vincent, moved to Washington State, and she married Wayne Rognlin on May 29, 1954, in Everett, Wash. Marlene and Wayne eventually settled in Grays Harbor County to raise their four children, Terry, Randy, Scott, and Patricia. A loving wife and mother, Marlene’s dedication as a homemaker was central to the founding and success of Rognlin’s, Inc., the construction firm that remains in their family today.

When her children were grown, Marlene discovered what may have been her most cherished role, as “Gramma” to Nick, Katie, Tyler, Zack, Briana, and Connor Rognlin, and step-grandsons Matt and Jeff Johnson. Each has their own special memories of time spent with Grandma & Papa, and agree that nobody could spoil you quite the way Grandma did! During that time, she also became an avid golfer and an active member of the Grays Harbor Country Club. After Wayne’s retirement in the 1990s, they purchased a second home in Tubac, Ariz., where she greatly enjoyed the sunny weather, golfing with Las Damas ladies group, and most especially, the warm and welcoming community of friends they made in the Tubac area.

She is survived by her husband Wayne (of Aberdeen, Wash. and Tubac, Ariz.), son Randy and his wife Michele (Aberdeen), son Scott and his wife Aissa (Montesano), daughter Patricia (Seattle), her devoted grandchildren and six great-grandchildren whom she so adored. She is also survived by her sisters Helen Miller and Orlee Porter, her brother Douglas Heggie, and many nieces, nephews and other extended family in both Washington and Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Terry and granddaughter Kristi, as well as her parents, her brothers Elmo and Lynn, and her sister Ellen.

Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration of Marlene’s life at the Tubac Golf Resort in Tubac, Ariz. between 3-6 p.m. on Friday, March 16, or at the Grays Harbor Country Club in Aberdeen, Wash. between 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 31.

Private burial will be at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen, Wash.
