Marjorie Ann Celich

Marjorie Ann Celich was born in Aberdeen on Oct. 19, 1923, to James and Anna Darrington

Marjorie Ann Celich was born in Aberdeen on Oct. 19, 1923, to James and Anna Darrington. Marjorie was raised in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1941. She was offered a music scholarship to Washington State University, but was unable to take advantage due to the sudden death of her father. She went on to Grays Harbor Business College, then worked in the office for Schafer Brothers, then Weyerhaeuser, until giving birth to her first child.

She married John L. Celich on Sept. 15, 1956, who preceded her in death in April of 2012. During her life she was a member of Toastmasters, a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi, St. Mary’s Guild and Altar Society.

Music was always part of her life, playing the violin as a member of the Grays Harbor Symphony Orchestra, organist for St. Mary’s Church for over 60 years and playing the organ at many other churches on the Harbor, in addition to providing music for many weddings and funerals.

She was very charitable; volunteering to play the piano for the enjoyment of those in nursing homes, volunteering for FISH as a driver for those who needed rides to doctor appointments and volunteering at the Feed the Hungry Program at St. Mary’s Church.

She enjoyed the arts with her involvement in Grays Harbor Community Concerts, attending plays at the Driftwood Theatre and the Paramount in Seattle with her daughter.

Marjorie died peacefully at her home on Feb. 11 at the age of 96.

She will be missed by her three children, James (Tammy) of Aberdeen, Anna of Seattle and John of Aberdeen and a granddaughter, Jillian of Seattle.

The family would like to give special thanks to Kelli Jovanovich for being Marjorie’s caregiver for almost eight years. It is requested that memorial contributions be made to Feed the Hungry and St. Mary’s School, 514 North H St., Aberdeen, WA, 98520.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb 21, at St. Mary’s Church, followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment will be at 3 p.m. that day at Fern Hill Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Direction is by the Coleman Mortuary in Hoquiam.
