Her family lived on Carlton Street in Melbourne, Australia and she attended Saint George’s Catholic School in Carlton, a suburb of Melbourne.
During her schooling years she liked to go rabbiting at Smith’s Beach, a small town on Phillip Island in Victoria, Australia. She enjoyed camping and playing tennis. She began working outside of the family home at the age of 13.
After completing her formal schooling she worked at PLB in Melbourne.
She fondly remembered when she was 18 and came over on a cruise with her sister, Margaret, to work and travel about British Columbia and the USA. This is when she met Neil Mickelson. Marie Treacy was married to Neil Mickelson on Dec. 12, 1960, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and they then made their home in Arlington, Washington.
Marie then worked with her husband at Mickelson Logging as their administrative assistant, as an orchardist, receptionist, waitress, but her most important occupation was raising her children and she was proud of all of them.
She had been a volunteer at the Lake Quinault Schools and drove her elderly neighbors to their appointments. She attended the Our Lady of the Olympics Catholic Church at Amanda Park and participated in many of their events.
Her travels had taken her to Canada, throughout the USA, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, England, Venice, Honolulu, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. She also liked gardening, gold panning and rock hounding. She will be long remembered as a gentle, kind person who was a hard worker and had a wonderful sense of humor.
