Lorraine Kay (Rowland) Forster, 71, passed away on May 20, 2021, at Harbor Regional Health Community Hospital in Aberdeen.
Known as Sue to family and friends, she was born in Toledo, Ohio on Oct. 29, 1949. As a young girl, her parents Bob and June moved the family to the San Diego area, where Sue attended school and graduated from El Capitan High School in 1967.
Shortly after, she met her husband Dennis, and they married in 1971. After having children, Leanne and Gary, the family moved to Washington state in 1979, settling in Montesano, which has been their home ever since.
Sue spent many years volunteering her time in her children’s pursuits, including Girl/Boy Scouts, the PTA, Little League and girls softball. She worked in a variety of retail positions in Montesano until 1992, when she began working at Valu Drug. She worked there until she retired in 2016, making many acquaintances and several good friends in the process.
Sue had many interests and hobbies but the most significant was her love and appreciation of music. At the age of 13 she attended her first concert with her sister Peggy, to see The Beach Boys in San Diego. Over the years, Sue’s passion for live performances led her to hundreds of concerts and included artists of all genres; however, her favorite music in recent years was country. Sue also enjoyed reading, traveling and in her later years she refurbished old furniture, for both herself and as gifts for family and friends.
Sue’s greatest love in life was her three grandchildren: Josie, Nathan and Carter. There was never a dull moment at Grandma’s house. Sue always had a project or adventure planned for her grandkids, from sewing and baking to trips to the beach or parks. One of her favorite pastimes was watching Josie excel in softball, and cheering on Nathan and Carter in football. She never missed a game. Sue was able to spend her last weekend at Josie’s tournament, watching softball in the sunshine, surrounded by family.
Sue is survived by her husband Dennis; her children, Gary and Leanne; her grandchildren Josie, Nathan, and Carter; her brother Tom Rowland and his family; her sister Roberta Whitney and her family; and her sister Linda Kruschke and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Bob and June Rowland and sister Peggy Byrne.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held on July 24. Details will be communicated at a later date.
