Seventy-three year resident of Aberdeen, Lorena Violet Atkins, died at her Aberdeen home Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. She was 97.

Seventy-three year resident of Aberdeen, Lorena Violet Atkins, died at her Aberdeen home Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. She was 97. Lorena was born in Newberg, Ore., Oct. 15, 1921, the daughter of Amos and Sarah (Moad) Morgan.

Lorena attended school at Mountaintop, Ore. and lived there until she married Jesse Earl Atkins in Vancouver, Wash. on June 25, 1938. They lived in Goldendale, Wash., Newberg, Ore., returning to Goldendale where Jesse built homes with his father. They eventually came to Seattle, Tacoma and coming to Aberdeen in 1945. Leona worked cleaning homes about Aberdeen and then would work in the kitchen at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She became a cook there and would retire after working for 35 years.

She attended Immanuel Baptist Church with her granddaughter, Teresa Ramirez, liked water exercise at the YMCA, gardening and raising flowers in her yard and RVing with her husband, Jesse, throughout the Western United States.

Lorena is survived by three daughters: Eva Hart, Montesano, Ethel Reed, Hoquiam and Sharlene and husband Daniel Crevison, Olympia; and also 17 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 39 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons: James in 1995 and Jack Atkins in 2014; four brothers: James, Cecil, Paul and Virgil Morgan; and a sister: Vida Nosack.

A celebration of Lorena’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1200 Soule St., Hoquiam. Private inurnment took place with her husband, Jesse, in the Satsop Cemetery.
