Lloyd Spoon passed away on June 25, 2023, at the age 83. He was born to Glen and Elma Spoon in Fairfield, Montana. The family moved to Westport, Washington when he was young. He graduated from Ocosta High School in 1958.
Lloyd played the trombone in the high school band and got a music scholarship to Western Washington College. While there, he earned his teaching degree and taught music in Kent, Washington. After graduation, he moved to Hollywood California, where he played in the band for singer Della Reese. Soon after, he landed a job with the Stan Kenton Orchestra.
Lloyd traveled all over the world with the band and played on 19 of the orchestra’s albums. He worked on the Hawaiian Cruise ship as a music director, where he met his wife, Linda (Hill) Spoon. They settled in Claude, Texas, where he taught music. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, Lloyd continued to “play gigs” wherever and whenever he could.
Lloyd will be missed by so many. He is survived by his brother Gary Spoon of Easton, Washington; sister Marilyn Spoon of Orting, Washington; grandson Vincent Spoon of San Rafael, California; granddaughter Samantha Johnson of Spanaway, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Jessica Spoon, wife Linda (Hill) Spoon, brother Monty Spoon and sister Lorraine (Spoon) Christensen.
