LeRoy Virgil Winkler of Elma passed away at Harbor Regional Health and Rehab in Aberdeen on Sept. 4, 2024. He was 84 years old.
LeRoy was born on July 17, 1940, in Aberdeen to parents Carl Winkler and Catherine Mabel Smith. After graduating from high school, he joined The United States Navy. He then worked for the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Department for a number of years before becoming a truck driver.
On Jan. 4, 1986, he married the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” Crowley, at the United Methodist Church in Aberdeen.
LeRoy was a member of the Gray’s Harbor Rifle and Pistol Club, The 7 Rivers Mountain Men, and The Grays Harbor Mounted Posse. He loved hunting and fishing and was a collector of black powder guns.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Patty Winkler of Elma; sons Dennis Winkler, Larry Winkler of Centralia, Michael Winkler of Montesano, Darrin Winkler of Lakewood, and Sean Crowley of Aberdeen; sisters Linda and Sherry Ann; nine grandchildren and many wonderful great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Catherine Winkler and his brothers, Frank Winkler, Jack Winkler, and Cecil Winkler.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elma Eagles Lodge.
