Leroy Melvin Winkleblack, 65, longtime Aberdeen resident and community volunteer, died Monday Aug. 21, 2023, at Harbor Regional Health Care in Aberdeen.
Leroy was born on July 20, 1958, in Aberdeen, Washington to Melford and Jean (Signer) Winkleblack. He grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1978. He had moved to Ocean Shores from 1994 to 2008 and the last couple of years he lived in Hoquiam.
He worked at various restaurants in the Harbor including, Galway Bay, McDonald’s and Burger King. He also worked at the Ocean Shores IGA Store and The Kite Shop. He enjoyed fixing bikes, bowling and volunteering with Coastal Community Action Program.
Leroy was a member of the Special Olympics when he was younger and was planning on entering the Special Olympics again in the near future.
Leroy is survived by his brothers: Ron Winkleblack of Elma and Andy Winkleblack of Aberdeen; a sister, Janice (Abbie) Skinner of Hoquiam; and nieces and nephew, Christina, Heather and David. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Jerry Lee Winkleblack as an infant and Jeff Winkleblack in 2014.
There will be a funeral service for Leroy on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, at Light and Life Community Church, 2740 Simpson Ave., Hoquiam at 11 a.m. with a potluck reception to follow.
