Leif Tangvald, 83, of Aberdeen, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022.

Leif Tangvald, 83, of Aberdeen, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022. He was born in Kristiansand, Norway on Nov. 14, 1938, to Rolf Tangvald and Rakel Bjerland. He lived in Norway until 1947. He was 9 years old when he and his family moved to the United States.

Leif was raised in Aberdeen, Washington. He attended Aberdeen High School, Grays Harbor Community College, Washington State University and Central Washington University. Leif joined the Navy in August 1957 and was discharged in June 1959.

Leif married Lynn Tangvald Dec. 30, 1961 in Winlock Washington. They were married for 60 years. He worked for the Aberdeen School District for 30 years and was the principal at Hopkins Junior High School, Robert Gray Elementary and McDermoth Elementary.

He was a part of Amazing Grace Lutheran and Saron Lutheran Church, as well as the Aberdeen and Hoquiam Sons of Norway.

Leif is survived by his wife Lynn; son Mark Tangvald (Alison) of Vancouver, Washington; daughter Susan Van Horn (Jack) of Keswick, Virginia; and grandchildren: Claire, Lauren, Elle, Jensen and Camryn. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Halvar and Roald Tangvald.

A memorial will be held at 10 a.m. on March 19, 2022 at Saron Lutheran Church, 708 8th St, Hoquiam.
