Lawrence Stanley Saviage was born on Oct. 1, 1927 in Hobart, Washington.
He passed away on Dec. 21, 2024, in the company of his only son Stanley.
“Larry” was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness on Nov. 22, 2003.
He lived his life with service to his family and community.
He loved the Bible and the truth he found in its words. He enjoyed sharing this truth by his service to Jehovah as a witness to others.
“Larry” was 97 years young. He lived with his wife Teresa of 21 years at his home by the Satsop River. He was active his entire life with his garden and his backyard wildlife sanctuary. Raccoons came to his glass door daily for free handouts of marshmallows and dog food. The birds also were well taken care of.
Larry was an outdoorsman and passionate about nature. He shared his gift of knowledge here as a teacher and mentor of the outdoors to many. He loved sharing what he had learned in his lifetime and enjoyed educating those who asked him to share … and those who asked enjoyed learning from him.
An important highlight in Larry’s career included service in the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey on board the ship “Pathfinder” that charted maps of the Gulf of Alaska. His work for this organization, the predecessor of NOAA was fulfilling work. He served with distinction and was commended for action that saved the ship and crew while at watch. Through his job and he was able to experience and enjoy many adventures in the Alaska Territory.
Larry worked the rest of his career in the City of Renton for the water department.
He retired to his Satsop property in 1989 with his wife Beth. She preceded him in death in 2000.
In his earlier years, Larry was a great help in teaching outdoor skills to his pupils in the Boy Scouts of America. And awarded by the Acorn Society for his commitment to others living by example with truth, honor and dignity.
He is survived by his wife Teresa, granddaughter Erica and great granddaughter. He is also survived by his son Stanley, wife Heather, two grandsons Aaron and Jason. And by a great granddaughter and great grandson.
Lawrence was proceeded in death by his sister Shirley in 2022 who was deaf. Thus, Larry also learned to communicate with some sign language.
