Lawrence Oliver “Red” Williams, 90, a lifelong Elma resident, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

Red was born on Dec. 29, 1931, in Elma, Washington to parents Lloyd Williams and Rose Williams (Combes). He attended Elma High School. After his junior year, Red joined the Navy, and was able to finish his education through the military. He was an aerial gunner for the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and served between 1952-1956. During his service experience, he had an opportunity to circumnavigate the globe and observe many different cultures. He was stationed out of the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. After his discharge from the Navy, Red moved back to Elma and began working in the logging industry. He was employed with Weyerhaeuser Company for 28 years before retiring in 1995. One of his most cherished accomplishments was his achievement of the Million Mile Award acknowledging no accidents occurred within a million miles of driving.

Red was a member of the VFW Post #1948, the Eagles #1440 and a past member of the local 32 Woodworkers Union. His passion was hunting and fishing; activities he began as a boy and enjoyed throughout his life. He loved to dance and sing karaoke; county music was his favorite.

Red is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Rose Williams; brother, Lloyd Williams Jr. and sisters, Shirley Taft and Phyllis Davidson.

He is survived by his son, Len Williams (Laura) of St. George, Utah; daughters, Deanie Doyle of Olympia, Washington and Tracie Kier (Kevin) of Tumwater, Washington; sister, Joan Coker of Elma, Washington; six grandchildren: Landon Williams, Tyler Williams, Jordan Williams, Haley Davis, Conley Doyle and Jamie Kier; two step-grandchildren, Riley Kier and Tyler Kier and 18 great-grandchildren. Red was very fond of his kind and caring neighbors.

A private family celebration will be held at a later date. No public services are scheduled. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Twibell’s Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen, Washington.
