Lawrence “Larry” Rudis, 83, beloved father and grandfather passed away on Jan. 16, 2022.
Born and raised in Cosmopolis, Washington on May 5, 1928, to Peter and Mary Rudis (Drazich), he was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Cosmopolis Elementary School, receiving the Neal Cooney Award for academic excellence. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen as part of the class of 1956.
Larry began his working career as a stock boy at The Square Deal Market in Cosmopolis before moving on to Major Line Cabinets. He was self-employed for many years as a carpenter, building many beautiful homes on the Harbor including two of his own and a mobile home park in Cosmopolis. In later life he worked at The Shipyard in Hoquiam.
Larry was a wonderful father and grandfather who was always ready to give his time. He was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and could be found every Thursday night playing cards with the same group of friends. He was proud of his garden and working in his yard where he enjoyed taking care of the numerous deer who visited. Larry enjoyed spending time with his children and grandson and traveled to California, Nevada, Colorado and Utah to visit them often. Being near family was always important to him, and he enjoyed his trips to visit them and loved them coming to visit him even more.
He is survived by his daughter Kimberly (Dale) Scherieble of Simi Valley, California; son Todd (Karyn) Rudis of Park City, Utah; and his grandson Nicolas Scherieble of Fallon, Nevada. He is also survived by his sister Katherine Wagner of Aberdeen, Washington and brother Andrew Rudis of Yelm, Washington along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Mary, his sister Patricia Meiers and brothers Dr. Bernard Rudis and Paul Rudis.
A viewing will be held on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at Harrison Funeral Home in Aberdeen from 12 to 1 p.m. A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 2 in the Harrison Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will follow at Game Day Sports Bar and Grill, 212 S. I Street in Aberdeen, Washington.
He will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Cosmopolis near his mother and father.
