Kathryn “Kathy” Louise (Buchanan) Jones, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Mooresville, North Carolina on Sept. 7, 2025.
She was born June 24, 1941 in Wilmot, North Carolina to Wilbur and Nellie Settlemyre. The youngest of four, she graduated from Sylva High School in 1959.
Early on, Kathy worked at Ma Bell as a telephone operator. After moving to Washington, she became a waitress at Stones Cafè. After the birth of her children, she became a homemaker, her favorite job. She later became a caregiver and worked for Kaufman Scroggs furniture store.
Kathy introduced her children to her southern roots by spending several summers in North Carolina, something she loved. With her children at the center of her world, she enjoyed volunteering in their schools in any capacity she could. You could find her anywhere from the PTO or helping with the school carnival, to planning and chaperoning Senior all night parties. She spent many hours at the baseball field, soccer field and aquatic center watching her children during their sporting events. A woman deeply rooted in her faith, she attended church on Sunday and WMU on Wednesday evenings.
You could regularly find Kathy at garage sales, canning fresh produce from her garden, and baking. She also loved summers at Wynoochee Wildwood, and always looked forward to being in the kitchen with her sister Della, cooking holiday dinners.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Nellie Settlemyre, her first husband Roger Buchanan, and sisters Helen, Della and Betty. She is survived by her husband Bragg Jones of North Carolina, daughter Lisa Munger (Chris) of Hoquiam, son Shannon Buchanan (Gina) of Wishkah, and three granddaughters: Chandra Cristelli (Austin) of Montesano, Carsyn Munger of Shelton, Baylee Buchanan of Wishkah, as well as two great-granddaughters, Emersyn and Addisyn Cristelli of Montesano. Additionally, she leaves behind two stepdaughters, Kim Winship and Lynn Jones as well as grandson Alex Winship, all of North Carolina.
