Karen Evon Braykovich, 76, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at the Hoquiam home she shared with her daughter, from complications related to dementia. In hospice care for only 10 days, she passed peacefully in her sleep with her beloved dog Lucy by her side.
Karen was born on June 7, 1942, to Henry and Mildred Killman at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Aberdeen, Wash.
Karen attended school in Aberdeen and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1960. She went on to earn her nursing degree in 1977 from Grays Harbor College.
She was married shortly after high school to Michael L. Braykovich. They had three children, Dawn, Mark and Duane. They later divorced in 1976.
Karen worked as an LPN in various nursing homes on the Harbor, including Grays Harbor Health and Rehab and Pacific Care Center. She was well liked by coworkers and residents alike. Karen was known for her caring bedside manner and her willingness to help others. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles in her spare time and taking trips with her family.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents and her only sibling Richard Killman.
Karen is survived by her children Dawn Braykovich of Hoquiam Wash., Mark (Linda) Braykovich of Aberdeen, Wash. and Duane (Staci) Braykovich of Grand Mound, Wash. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held at her home for family members on Saturday, Sept, 15. Cremation arrangements were provided by The Neptune Society per Karen’s wishes. There will be a private memorial service for the family on Sept. 29, at her Hoquiam home.
