Julie Diane Cipale, age 56, passed away surrounded by family at Harborview Medical Center on Sept. 5, 2023. She was born on Feb. 18, 1967, in Norwood, Massachusetts, to Doris Crandall, and was step-daughter to Clair “Skip” Crandall.

After obtaining her associate of arts at Grays Harbor College, Julie worked as a Forms and Records Analyst 2 on the Firearms Compliance Team in the Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery. She had just purchased a home in Centralia, Washington.

Julie was a proud and loving mother to her three children, Alexa, Cody and Sami Messerer. She also adored her three cats, Misha, Luna and Max, who have all found new homes with close family members. Julie was an animal lover in every sense of the expression. She never hesitated to help a stray animal in need and enjoyed pet-sitting for friends and family. Her family remembers a hilarious time during a Christmas celebration when family members brought their pet opossum, Lulu, for a visit. Concern was raised and Julie exclaimed “Lulu is a guest in this house!”

Julie is survived by her children, Alexa, Cody and Samantha “Sami” Messerer. She is also survived by her sister, Jacqueline “Jackie” Quinby, “Bruce”, brother Joseph “Joe” Cipale, “Peggy”, and in-laws Steve Messerer and Paula Berman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doris Crandall and step-father, Skip Crandall.

Because she loved animals and helping people, charitable donations can be made in her name to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals), ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) or the Cure JM Foundation.

Per her wishes, no celebration of life is planned.
